The November edition of EdTech Mondays Radio Show will shine a spotlight on the critical issue of gender parity in education, examining both the challenges and the potential of EdTech to address them within the Ethiopian context.
The program, produced by the Mastercard Foundation in collaboration with Shega Media & Technology, will air at 8:10 PM EAT on Monday, November 25, 2024, via Fana FM 98.1 and 10 affiliated stations across Ethiopia.
Despite progress in recent years, Ethiopia continues to face significant challenges in achieving gender parity in education. Cultural norms, economic hardships, and inadequate infrastructure often limit girls’ access to quality learning opportunities. These barriers are particularly pronounced in rural areas, where mobility and safety concerns further compound the issue.
However, the emergence of EdTech solutions presents a transformative opportunity. By leveraging digital tools, Ethiopia has the potential to make education more inclusive and equitable.
Moderated by journalist and producer Rediet Meshesha, this month's discussion will feature a panel of EdTech developers, educators, and gender experts. Together, they will explore how EdTech tools—ranging from mobile learning apps to community-based digital hubs—can bridge gender disparities in education, particularly for girls in underserved and remote areas.
EdTech Mondays was launched as a platform to facilitate critical conversations on the use of technology for teaching and learning by bringing together key stakeholders including policymakers, EdTech entrepreneurs, teachers, and parents.
