The Huawei Global ICT Competition, which provides a platform for university students from around the world to compete and exchange ideas, will hold its final round in China later this year.
Now in its 7th round, the competition commenced in Ethiopia in November 2022. Over 1,500 students participated in the online preliminary exam. Following a selection process, 63 students were invited to the national ICT competition held in Addis Ababa at the end of 2022, organized in partnership with the Ethiopian Ministry of Education.
After the national competition, 15 students advanced to the regional finals. The regional Huawei ICT competition exam was a six-hour affair, testing three tracks: network, cloud, and computing.
Ultimately, six students from the University of Gondar, Wachemo University, Addis Ababa Science & Technology University, and Adama Science & Technology University qualified for the global finals of the Huawei ICT Competition, where they will represent Ethiopia.
Since its inception in 2015, the Huawei ICT Competition has been steadily growing in prominence. The sixth iteration, held in 2022, saw participation from 150,000 university students from 85 countries and regions. Ethiopian students have been taking part in the competition since 2019.
Through this competition, Huawei aims to provide students with a platform to compete healthily and exchange ideas, thus enhancing their ICT knowledge and practical skills as well as increasing their ability to innovate by using new technologies and platforms.
