Last week, Ethiopia officially welcomed a second telecom operator with a grand event. During the ceremony, Amed Shidie, Minister of Finance, announced that the government would grant an operation permit for Safaricom Ethiopia to deploy its mobile money service M-Pesa in Ethiopia.

Safaricom Gets Approval to Launch M-Pesa in Ethiopia

Ethiopia has given the green light to Safaricom to introduce its popular mobile money service, M-Pesa, to Ethiopia.

The announcement was made during the national launch of Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia (STE) in the capital Addis Ababa, at a ceremony attended by President William Ruto and his host Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed last week. Read more.

Tech African Women (TAW), a new Addis Ababa-based continental initiative that aims to support and accelerate women-owned African tech startups, has selected TenaSeb and Makoyamoms as country finalists in its first call for applications.
