Apps to Prepare for Grade 12 Examination in Ethiopia

Only a precious few students are making it to higher educational institutions. Out of 896,520 students who sat for the national school leaving exam for the 2021–22 academic year, only 3.3%, or 29,909, scored 50% or above, qualifying them to enroll in universities.

Families and schools are doing their best to equip their students. After-class tutorials, providing previous exam questions, and families hiring home tutors for their children are common practices. Not only entrance exam takers but also students of every grade now have access to the coming year’s topics while they are at home, spending time with their families.

Here are some platforms that can guide students through exams and provide them with guidebooks and textbooks while they are at home, wearing their favorite clothes.

1. Eutopias Students Matric

Eutopias Students Matric is a mobile application that offers solutions to alleviate the challenges faced by grade 12 students in sourcing questions for university entrance exams and reducing the expenses associated with high school textbooks.

It encompasses six years (2017–2022) of 12th-class entrance exams with corresponding answers, textbooks spanning from 9th to 12th grade, and an artificial intelligence (AI) tutor designed to respond to users’ questions. Additionally, the platform hosts regular contests with prizes for participating users.

2. Fetena.net

Fetna.net, is a website where students can get previous years’ national exam questions without hassle. The platform provides exams. Since they have been operating before the new curriculum, the platform offers grade 8–12 national exams starting in 2008 E.C. But the year varies depending on the course.

Fetena.net also offers users various kinds of exams, including bank entrance exam questions and textbooks starting from grades 1–12.

3. Temaribet.net

Temaribet.net, is a platform that offers a wide range of courses designed for students from grade 7 to grade 12.

Based on the latest Ethiopian educational standards and curriculum, temaribet also provides students with national exam questions.

Temaribet has over forty courses that are designed based on the new 2022 educational curriculum.

4. Kuraz tech

Launched in a co-branding partnership with Ethio Telecom, Kuraztech, has developed grade 12 prep courses in response to the rampant failure rate in the university entrance exams.

“Though Kuraz has been offering other courses when we saw the failure rate, we came up with 12th-grade exam prep courses,” said Biruk. “But rather than designing it with teachers, we co-create it with top-scoring students who score above 600 in their entrance exam,” Biruk Mamo Co-founder of Kuraz told Shega.

Twenty-one top scorers participated in creating the 12th-grade courses. Kuraz Tech’s EUEE prep program offers a comprehensive 28-course curriculum designed to prepare students for the Ethiopian University Entrance Exam.

The platform provides students with five years’ worth of national exam video lectures and tutorials (2011–2015). Students also benefit from over 60 hours of on-demand video explanations delivered in local languages.

5. TeachEthiopia

Teachethiopia, is an online tutor and homeschooling platform in Ethiopia that is passionate about enabling individuals, both adults and children, to excel in their learning goals.

Tecahethiopia also offers services for international students. Users can register and book themselves for the course they want to learn, including video and other benefits the platform offers, starting at 300 birr per hour for international students and starting at 15 USD.
