Amadou Daffe, CEO and co-founder of Gebeya Inc., the Addis Ababa-based pan-African gig economy platform, has been selected among the top ten finalists in 2022 Africa’s Business Heroes (ABH) competition.
The flagship annual philanthropic program established by the Jack Ma Foundation to spotlight and support African entrepreneurs named Amadou among the top ten finalists
Amadou, who was selected from an initial pool of over 21,000 applicants from across Africa over a seven-month period, will finally be competing for the title of 2022 ABH Winner at the Grand Finale, which will be held on November 19, 2022.
All finalists will win a share of the competition’s US$1.5 million grant. The event will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa, and will be livestreamed.
ABH, now in its 4th edition, aims at supporting and inspiring the next generation of African entrepreneurs across all sectors who are building a more sustainable and inclusive economy for the future of the continent.
Over a 10-year period, ABH will recognize 100 African entrepreneurs and commit to allocating grant funding, training programs, and support for the development of an entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Each year, the ABH prize competition and show feature 10 finalists as they pitch their businesses to win a share of US$1.5 million in grant money.
After moving to Ethiopia in 2016, Amadou Daffe and cofounder Hiruy Amanuel launched Gebeya to equip African IT professionals with the skills they needed to work for companies across the continent and around the world.
The business model has evolved beyond training software developers, and Gebeya now works with project and product managers, graphic designers, and other professionals. The company has also created the Gebeya Incubator, which nurtures digital entrepreneurs, and an IT skills marketplace, which matches developers with companies in need of tech talent.
A driven entrepreneur Amadoud aims to expand Africa’s gig economy by leveraging the continent’s richest and most indispensable resource: its human capital.
