Ethio Telecom Plans 4G Expansion In The Capital and Roll out in Regional Towns

As Ethio-telecom announces a three-year strategy, one-year annual business plan, new, and revamped local and international product and services offers, it offered it’s customers major discounts on its different services alongside three days thank you package offers.

4G/LTE advanced network capacity expansion Addis Ababa and 4G/LTE rollout in regional towns, upgrading the international gateway capacity, Increase total subscribers by 13% to 51.12 M, and Data and Internet users by 16.5% to 27.47M are part of the 2013 ( July 2020 – June 2021 ) fiscal year plan.

Ethiopia To Enact A Startup Act

The Ethiopian draft Startup Act (Start-up Businesses Proclamation) that introduce various interventions that are specifically targeted to solve the major issues startups and ecosystem players have been facing is on draft.

A proclamation named as “ Start-up Businesses Proclamation” by the Ministry of Innovation and Technology together with the Job Creation Commission and other players introduces various initiatives including National Startup Council, National Fund, Pre-registration certificate, various incentives for startups, investors, and ecosystem builders. GreenPath Launches A New Herbal Tea Brand

GreenPath Food, an Ethiopian horticulture start-up, that supplies premium quality organic certified fruit and vegetables launched a new Tea herbal brand called Kib. Kib, a brand that is launched with the Idea of what grows around and comes around is produced with an approach called circular system.

GreenPath that uses the regenerative and premature methods, with production led by smallholder growers. Green Path is one of the well funded and VC backed startup in Ethiopia.

A New shopping Platform Joins the Ethiopian market

Addisber is an online shopping portal that presents with its own dispatch center and the central warehouse joins the e-commerce market in Ethiopia.

Addisber customers can pay through Yenepay, Amole, CBE Birr, Hello Cash, and M-birr, as well us to Visa cards and Master. Addisber also serves those living abroad, who want to send items and daily needs to their family in Ethiopia. Read more

New Regulation To Govern Drones in Ethiopia

Ethiopian Civil aviation authority (ECAA) collaborated with INSA (Information Network Security Agency) enacted a drone regulation that enables it to regulate the import and operation of drones in Ethiopia. The regulation will allow ECAA to license drone importers, operators, and assemblers operating in the country according to The Reporter.

There has been the adoption of drones for various purposes across the country but there hasn’t been a legal framework for the government to manage the import and operation of drones. Current drone owners will need to get clearance from the authority accordingly. Read more.

Ethiopian On Shine

Rediet Abebe who works as an assistant Computer Science professor at the University of California at Berkeley wins the Doctoral Dissertation Award from ACM SIGKDD, the world’s largest computing organization for her PhD thesis in “Designing Algorithms for Social Good”. The Ethiopian scientist who completed her high school and elementary in Addis Ababa Ethiopia, went to the US to study her Bachelor’s Degree from Harvard University, in Mathematics and later MSC in Applied Mathematics.
