A dozen Ethiopian startups and companies are heading to one of the world’s largest startup and annual tech conferences, Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX) Global,
The annual tech conference with over 100,000 visitors will be held in October 2022 in Dubai. GITEX GLOBAL 2022 congregates the ecosystem of stakeholders in the vibrant global digital economy. The large and inclusive tech show, brings together tech enterprises, governments, startups, investors, coders, academia, and youth.
The Ethiopia delegation will get dedicated promotional space at the GITEX conference named “startup pod,” where the startups can advertise their business on the spot. In addition, they will get an opportunity to match with investors and companies, and create connections with startup stakeholders in the startup world.
Powered by Laurendeau & Associates, the 12 delegates from Ethiopia were chosen in three different ways. One startup was crowned as the winner of the GITEX Ethiopia challenge, sponsored by the Dubai World Trade Center. Five companies working in IT and outsourcing were sponsored by the International Trade Center.
Lastly, a group comprising six growth startups that won another local GITEX competition is sponsored by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Eshi is a delivery service that uses an application or call center by leveraging optimized processes and innovative technology to provide convenience and lower prices for goods to businesses and organizations.
Zafree is a company that manufactures 100% tree-free paper pulp using agro waste. It was founded in 2017 by Bethelhem Dejene and Bethelhem Fikre. Their product is eco-friendly, carbon neutral, recyclable, and non-toxic. Zafree’s unbleached virgin paper pulp can be used to make any type of paper or paper product.
Taskmoby Founded by Ezana Raswork, Taskmoby is an Ethiopian digital marketplace that connects people with home service professionals such as cleaners, plumbers, and electricians. It is a quick, high-quality, hassle-free, and cost-effective platform.
Lersha provides a one-stop digital service to smallholder farmers and enables them to access farm inputs, hire mechanization services, and request dynamic agro-climatic advice using technology. The platform combines a mobile application, a call center, and agents to facilitate transactions with farmers.
Omishtu Joy is an Agritech startup that designed an agricultural device that can accurately measure necessary parameters in the soil to help decide what crop will best suit it. It has successfully developed a sophisticated mobile application using artificial intelligence technology that can recommend the best crop based on the data.
Guzo Technologies, founded by Daniel Getachew, is one of the few local startups engaged in AR/VR content design, development, and implementation. Guzo developed an XR product called Guzo Map, an all-in-one photo and video virtual tour platform aiming to recreate Ethiopian historical sites virtually.
