In November 2022, leading innovators, investors, and policymakers from around the world will gather in Cape Town, South Africa, for the eighth edition of the Africa Fintech Summit (AFTS). The summit is scheduled for November 2–4, 2022, at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

With participants representing over $4.5 billion in private equity and venture capital funding, the AFTS is a global initiative dedicated to financial technology in Africa. The bi-annual summit occurs each April in Washington, D.C., and each November in a different African city.

The Cape Town summit will focus on policy and regulation, tech talent, the future of banking, mobile money growth and integration, embedded fintech, blockchain, powering African fintech via venture capital, debt financing, and CVC investing, remittances, intra-Africa trade, and payment infrastructure and financial inclusion, among others.

For the event, which will be hybrid, delegates from Ethiopia can register for both in-person and virtual attendance using birr.

AFTS has also opened its AlphaExpo program that aims to support early-stage entrepreneurship and investment in the African financial technology ecosystem.

At each November edition of the Africa Fintech Summit, AFTS selects startups from hundreds of applications to exhibit at the summit free of charge and to participate in the AlphaExpo Bootcamp, culminating in a pitch competition.

Applications need to be made before September 30, 2022, and for those selected startups, AFTS assists with Visa applications.

AFTS has hosted Ethiopian startups in the past years, including Arifpay, Orbit Health, Chapa, and Addis Mercato. For the last four years, some 25+ startups have raised more than $78 million as part of this AlphaExpo initiative.
