The 2025 Biodiversity Information for Development (BID) programme by GBIF invites project concept notes from eligible organizations in sub-Saharan Africa.
The BID programme aims to strengthen institutional and regional capacity to mobilize biodiversity data, making it openly available to support research, policymaking, and sustainable data-sharing partnerships. Funded by the European Union, it offers two grant types: institutional-level grants and multi-institutional collaboration grants.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be legal entities (e.g., research institutions, universities, NGOs, government agencies) registered in eligible sub-Saharan African countries.
- Projects must align with BID objectives and operate on a non-profit basis.
- Data mobilization must comply with open data licenses CC0 1.0 or CC BY 4.0.
- Organizations headquartered outside eligible countries may apply through a local registered entity.

- Funding up to €30,000 for institutional-level grants and up to €60,000 for multi-institutional grants.

Application Process

- Selected projects commence by 3 July 2026 with 24-month duration.
