Gender & AI Innovation Collective 2025: Open Call for Women-Led AI Solutions in Africa

ode for Africa and the A+ Alliance have opened applications for the Gender & AI Innovation Collective 2025, supporting women-led African organizations to build feminist AI solutions for social impact.

Code for Africa (CfA), in partnership with the A+ Alliance, has opened applications for the Gender & AI Innovation Collective 2025, an 18-month program supporting women’s rights organizations in Africa to design and deploy AI-powered solutions to community-level challenges such as gender-based violence, economic inequality, and digital exclusion.

 

Running from February 2026 to June 2027, the program will select 15 organizations across three cohorts, guiding them through a phased process that moves from learning to real-world implementation.

 

Who can Apply 

  • Be a civil society organization, interdisciplinary team, or activist organization in Africa
  • Be either women-led OR primarily working on women's rights
  • Have a feminist or human rights mission
  • Show commitment to community engagement and participatory design

Eligible thematic areas include, but are not limited to:

Climate justice, labor rights, health equity, gender equality, digital justice, technology-facilitated gender-based violence, social justice, children’s rights, disability rights, LGBTQIA+ inclusion, data privacy, civic engagement, peacebuilding, and media literacy.

 

Benefits and Funding

  • Phase 1: Eight weeks of structured learning on Feminist AI, data ethics, model design, and impact assessment, alongside peer feedback
  • Phase 2:
    • CAD 7,500 for six newly developed prototypes, or
    • CAD 3,000 for six adapted or localized tools, with technical mentorship
  • Phase 3:
    • CAD 15,000 for three pilot projects to support real-world testing, scaling, and sustainability

Beyond funding, participants gain long-term technical capacity, mentorship, and access to a continental network of feminist technologists and advocates.
