Free Blockchain Training & $1M Hackathon Open to Ethiopians Through Hedera Program

The Ethiopian Blockchain Network has launched a free Web3 training program, offering certificates, on-chain badges, and access to a $1M+ Hedera Africa Hackathon with events in Addis Ababa and 20+ African cities.

The Ethiopian Blockchain Network, in partnership with Dar Blockchain, is inviting developers, students, and tech enthusiasts in Ethiopia to participate in a continent-wide blockchain training and hackathon program backed by The Hashgraph Association and Swirlds Labs.

 

The โ€œComplete Blockchain Trainingโ€ is a free, self-paced online course designed to introduce participants to Web3 and distributed ledger technologies, with a focus on Hedera Hashgraph a high-throughput, energy-efficient blockchain alternative.

 

Open to beginners and experienced developers alike, the program includes:

  • 11 structured modules covering blockchain foundations and Hederaโ€™s architecture
  • A final assessment of knowledge
  • A certificate and an on-chain digital badge upon completion

 

Graduates of the training will automatically qualify for the Hedera Africa Hackathon 2025, scheduled to run from August 1 to September 30. The hackathon offers over $1 million in prize funding and includes in-person activations in 20+ African cities, including Addis Ababa, as well as a global virtual track.

Participants will be challenged to build decentralized applications (dApps) addressing issues in sectors such as finance, healthcare, sustainability, telecom, and agriculture leveraging emerging tech like AI, IoT, and blockchain. 

 

The initiative is supported by over 100 universities, tech hubs, and developer communities across the continent, and aims to engage over 10,000 participants from more than 15 African countries.
