The Next Narrative Africa Fund, a $40 million content and media fund has launched its first open call for script development grants designated for African and African-diasporan storytellers.
Designed for narrative feature films or episodic series with at least 50% of principal photography shot in Africa, the initiative aims to reshape global perceptions through authentic storytelling.
Eligibility Criteria
- Open to African and African-diasporan creatives working on feature film or TV series scripts
- Projects must be commercially viable, globally appealing, and aligned with NNAF’s mission (e.g., social impact, gender awareness, mental health, governance, climate)
- Scripts should be in final development or finishing-stage with capacity to complete within 6–12 months
- Films must have 50%+ production in Africa; teams ideally include experienced members (festival selections, distribution background)
Benefits & Funding Details
- Grants range between $20,000 and $100,000 per selected project (6–10 projects expected)
- Funded teams enter a pipeline for future equity financing (up to 20% of budget, capped at ~$1.5M)
- Includes strategic development support, mentorship, and global partner visibility.
