In October 2022, Safaricom Ethiopia switched on its network and services in Addis Ababa and announced a national launch ceremony. As Ethiopia welcomed its first private telecom operator and a competitor to the state-owned Ethio Telecom, we compared Safaricom Ethiopia’s price with Ethio Telecom’s and came up with a list.

Safaricom Ethiopia SIM cards cost 30 birr and come with a welcome offer. The free offer that comes with the SIM includes 700 MB of data, 70 minutes of voice, and 70 SMS for customers to test and experience the network for one month.

Safaricom Ethiopia is charging subscribers 0.50 birr per minute for calls. One MB of data costs 0.10 birr. Meanwhile, SMS is charged at 0.12 birr per text.

With Safaricom SIM Cards, customers get 4G data and can make calls and texts between services between Safaricom Ethiopia and Ethio Telecom numbers.

Safaricom Ethiopia Prices Vs Ethio Telecom Prices

Safaricom prices in Ethiopia are almost the same as Ethio Telecom’s prices, except for data. Ethio Telecom charges data usage 0.20 birr per MB, which is twice as Safaricom Ethiopia’s.

In addition, when customers buy SIM cards, they can choose their preferred numbers, buy airtime, and access dedicated customer support at the branded shops in Addis Ababa and 11 other cities. The national network rollout will continue to reach 14 additional cities by April 2023.

Customers can contact the call center by dialing 700 and get services in S languages (Amharic, Afaan Oromo, Af-Somali, Tigrigna, and English).

Safaricom Ethiopia Wifi Prices

Many users are also waiting for Safaricom Ethiopia to provide wifi. However, such telecom services and their prices have not been announced, and the telecom operator is now focused on its mobile network.

However, one thing that has been made official is the status of unlimited data packages.

According to Anwar Soussa, CEO of Safaricom Ethiopia, the telecom operator will not offer unlimited data packages for at least two years.

Safaricom states that unlimited data packages put pressure on the network and will only be available when there is a large network and infrastructure.

Those who are waiting for Safaricom Ethiopia Vacancies and job openings should also keep their hopes up, as the company has announced that it has already employed over 600 people for its Ethiopia operations and stated that it would be investing 10 billion dollars in the next ten years, which will mean more jobs.
