Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Taxpayers in Addis Ababa were given three months to prepare receipts with QR code identifications. A month has passed since the ordinance, and many have yet to comply.
Ethiopia’s century-old state-owned publisher, Berhanena Selam Printing Enterprise, has been granted the permit to print the new receipts.
Here are the steps that taxpayers must follow to acquire the receipts.
Head to the tax branch office located in your business district with the following documents in hand: a Business License, a Value-Added Tax (VAT) certificate, and a Business Registration Certificate. Unlike prior stipulations for normal receipts, a sample is not required. A national digital ID (Fayda), a residence city ID, and a passport may be used for proof of identification.
Request for the receipt application form as well as a permission form. A minimum of 5 packets for a specific type of tax and a maximum of 300 packets for all tax categories may be requested. A single order number is used for all requests by one taxpayer.
Following a green light from the specific taxpayer branch office, make payments to the Berhanena Selam Printing Enterprise account at the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (100003794141). Payment for a single packet of receipts is exactly 450 birr. If the total amount exceeds 3,000 birr, ensure that you get a withholding tax deductible. Take the deposit receipt from the bank and go back to the original tax branch office.
Final step. Wait until a confirmation message is sent by the tax branch office and head on to Berhanena Selam located at Arat Kilo to receive the QR imprinted receipts. Make sure to have updated proof of identification.
