Ethiopian students have achieved third place in the 7th Huawei ICT Competition Global Final, which serves as a platform for university students worldwide to compete and exchange ideas.
The grand final took place in Shenzhen, China from May 24 to May 28, 2023. Representing Ethiopia, a team of nine students from the University of Gondar, Wachemo University, Addis Ababa Science & Technology University, and Adama Science & Technology University competed against 146 teams from 36 countries.
Two teams, each comprising three members, participated in the practical track covering various areas such as datacom, security, WLAN, big data, storage, AI, OpenEuler, and OpenGauss. Additionally, one team represented Ethiopia in the innovation track, competing with their invention idea called “Geez Character Classifier”.
In a press statement, Liu Jifan, CEO of Huawei Ethiopia, expressed appreciation for the students’ remarkable achievements. The students themselves were also delighted with their success and highlighted that the competition provided them with valuable international exposure, including a visit to Huawei’s headquarters.
The Huawei ICT Competition serves the purpose of cultivating high-quality ICT talent, selecting qualified individuals for the industry, continuously nurturing future drivers of digital transformation, promoting effective matching of talent supply and demand, and making significant contributions to the sustainable development of a talent ecosystem.
