Fertilizer Import- Ethiopia (2016-2020)
Ethiopia has historically relied on a few countries for a steady supply of fertilizer imports. While Morocco and Egypt have historically contributed a bulk of the amount, a recent shift towards China is observable. Fertilizer imports account for one of the biggest burdens to the public budget gobbling up nearly 14.48% of the country's export earnings. A significant portion of fertilizer imports are nitrogen based mixes in pellet or similar forms. As the share of fertilizer costs neared 3.8% of total imports during the year, efficient distribution and application have become of paramount importance.
