Food Production in Ethiopia 2021

Ethiopia's food production remains significantly low compared to the large proportion of the labor force engaged in agriculture. Rural households continue to consume over half of their food production while the amount of arable land hovers at a little over 15 million hectares. Significant disparities exist between regional states in food production with three regions contributing nearly three quarters of the output. Grains also account for most of the food produce reflective of dietary preferences by the larger Ethiopian populace. Government led efforts to increase food production have began to pay dividends in recent years alongside improvements in input provision.
